Accounting Specialist II - Family And Consumer Sciences US-Tennessee-Knoxville Accounting Specialist II Family & Consumer Sciences Pay Grade 36 Continuation of this position is dependent upon continued funding and satisfactory work performance. Duties/Responsibilities: The Accounting Specialist II will perform accounting and financial controls in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) by maintaining financial and inventory records, budget analysis and management of expenditures, and account payables for department funds and grants. Two of the grants are the Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program (TNCEP) and the Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) with annual contracts totaling over four million dollars. This position is responsible to the Assistant Dean of Extension, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). This is a regular, non-exempt, full-time position. Continuation of this grant-funded position is dependent upon continued funding through US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS), and satisfactory work performance. Duties include: * Reviewing 48 procurement card statements monthly for cardholders across the state. Initiating, typing, composing, editing, and proofing agendas, minutes, correspondence, documents, publications, and/or reports. * Responsible for entry of Effort certification data for 15 department members; Pay funding change eForms for department members on the TNCEP and EFNEP grants, invoices, department travel expenses. * Maintaining forecasting and reconciling financial ledgers for grants, including but not limited to TNCEP and EFNEP. * Responsible for the programs financial and accounting operations, which includes financial data entry records for the program. * Providing guidance and directions to staff concerning UT Fiscal Policy and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) guidelines. * Monitoring expenditures and budgets for the principal investigator of the external grants, as well as completing internal university forms. * Initiating financial transactions for grants as well as the FCS department. * Serving as back up to the Business Manager and Administrative Specialist III for the department. * Providing leadership for a grant activities that meets the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion or veteran status. * Other duties as assigned. Minimum/Required Qualifications (include education, experience, skills & abilities, licenses & certifications): * High School Diploma required. Two years of college with an emphasis in accounting or closely related field desired. * Five years experience in an accounting environment. * Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. * Knowledge of standard accounting principles. * Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment. * Good keyboarding, data entry, and Microsoft Office products skills. * Good customer service skills and ability to work with a variety of people. * Knowledge of UT fiscal policies and procedures. * Dependable and able to complete tasks correctly and on time. Preferred/Desired Qualifications: * Bachelor s degree. * Knowledge of IRIS (SAP) * Implementation of Uniform Guidance Regulations.
