Job Description:
Press Tab to Move to Skip to Content Link The United States is a
partner nation in ITER, an unprecedented international
collaboration of scientists and engineers working to design,
construct, and assemble a burning plasma experiment that can
demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion
energy. A self-heated burning plasma is a crucial step in fusion
energy development. US ITER is a DOE Office of Science project
hosted by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee.
Partner labs are Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) and
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). ITER's other partners
are the People's Republic of China, the European Union, India,
Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Russian Federation. Find out
more about this exciting project at www.usiter.org and www.iter.org
. Of the many systems that the US supports for the ITER Project,
this posting relates to the Diagnostics system, specifically Port
Integration. On the perimeter of the Tokamak, facing the plasma,
are several ports which house diagnostic systems to monitor plasma
activity and other key factors for operation. The Port Integration
team's responsibility is to design, analyze and integrate multiple
diagnostic systems to be housed in each port. The US responsibility
is designated to four of these ports and this position will be
Technical Lead (or Technical Responsible Officer) for two of those
ports, Equatorial Ports 3 and 9. - US ITER is seeking an
experienced engineer with a background in the design, analysis, and
review in compliance with provided critical specifications. In this
role you will have the opportunity to oversee the design of complex
integrated systems in collaboration with our domestic and foreign
colleagues. Communicating regularly with IO and diagnostic system
counterparts. As the Technical Lead of this complex system, there
are many ongoing activities where your knowledge and experience
will be needed to help guide the project team members as a key
resource to their work. You will contribute to design and analysis
review and to documentation development and review in line with our
immediate goals of achieving design approval. During design stages
and after, the design must be taken to fabrication where you will
support the manufacturing feasibility, procurement fabrication,
assembly, and testing phases through delivery to ITER. You will
also interface with vendors, engineering personnel within the US
ITER project and personnel at the ITER headquarters in France. Your
authority and approval levels include providing work direction to
group members within guidelines established by the US ITER
Technical Services Division. You may serve the role of Technical
Project Officer (TPO) for specific procurement contracts. Major
