Job Description Job Description Description The Process Engineer
– Fuel Forms provides engineering support for the development,
scale-up, and operation of advanced fuel form manufacturing
processes. This role supports research and development through
full-scale production, focusing on coating processes, powder
handling and forming, furnaces, and associated chemical and
material systems. The position collaborates closely with process
development, manufacturing, and facility teams to ensure safe,
efficient, and compliant fuel form production. Responsibilities
Support the development, design, optimization, and operation of
fuel form manufacturing processes, including coating processes,
graphite or ceramic powder processing, powder pressing, and
sintering or furnace operations. Design and document manufacturing
processes, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and
instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, operating
parameters, and process specifications. Perform process
calculations, material and energy balances, and data analysis to
support process scale-up, optimization, and troubleshooting.
Support the selection, specification, and procurement of process
equipment, including furnaces, coating systems, material handling
equipment, presses, chemical processing equipment, and associated
utilities. Operate process equipment to perform design verification
and validation, commissioning activities, and process
qualification. Support process automation and material handling
systems, including integration of sensors, controls, and data
acquisition systems. Develop and maintain standard operating
procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training documentation
for fuel form processes. Conduct root cause analysis and implement
corrective actions related to process deviations, equipment
performance, and product quality. Support quality assurance
activities, including process audits, inspections, and
documentation reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory and
safety requirements. Collaborate with facility, mechanical, and
utility engineering teams to ensure process requirements are
properly integrated into facility and infrastructure designs.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield,
reliability, throughput, safety, and cost reduction. Participate in
hazard analyses and safety reviews related to chemical, thermal,
and material handling operations. Maintain professional
communication and documentation standards in all forms of internal
and external communication. Provide technical guidance to junior
engineers and technicians supporting fuel form manufacturing
processes. Participate in cross-functional teams to standardize
engineering workflows, documentation, and best practices. Perform
other duties as assigned by management. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, or Nuclear
Engineering from an ABET EAC–accredited program is required. 5
years or more of relevant work experience is preferred. Advanced
degrees may be in lieu of some years of experience. Experience with
process development, manufacturing operations, or pilot-scale
production environments is required. Experience with powder
processing, coating processes, furnaces, thermal processing, or
chemical manufacturing systems is strongly preferred. Ability to
create and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and
process documentation. Experience supporting process equipment
installation, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting.
Knowledge of applicable manufacturing, chemical, and safety
standards and codes. Familiarity with process control systems,
automation, and data collection tools. Experience with 2D and or 3D
engineering and manufacturing tools is preferred. Strong
analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills. Benefits:
