Job Description Job Description Overview The Associate Design
Specialist plays a vital role in bridging product engineering,
production, technical centers, and global stakeholders by managing
2D/3D CAD models, drawing standards, and engineering documentation.
This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position focused on supporting
new product designs, change control, fixture layouts, and drawing
systems used across high-volume automotive manufacturing. You’ll
work cross-functionally to support design implementation, drawing
control systems, and technical accuracy from concept through
production. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy translating
engineering ideas into precise technical outputs, thrive on
organized communication across departments, and are energized by
improving process documentation and product development systems.

2D/3D Design & Drafting – Develop new part drawings, manufacturing
layouts, and solid models in SolidWorks and CATIA, ensuring
compliance with internal and industry standards. Design Translation
& Optimization – Convert engineering concepts into fully defined
technical drawings. Collaborate with engineers to improve
manufacturability, tolerance, and fit. Drawing & Change Management
– Maintain the drawing control database and implement engineering
changes through the PCR system. Coordinate updates across impacted
teams. Cross-Functional Coordination – Liaise with Japan and
technical centers to implement and maintain drawing systems (JANA).
Facilitate communication between design, manufacturing, and quality
teams. Tooling & Fixture Design Support – Assist in machine and
fixture design projects supporting JTEKT’s North American
Mechatronics group. System Maintenance – Oversee CAD software,
hardware, and PDM system maintenance. Coordinate updates and ensure
design tools function optimally. Documentation & Compliance – Keep
TS16949-compliant records and support internal documentation
efforts across the technical department. Process Improvement
Projects – Participate in kaizen events and industrial engineering
initiatives to enhance technical workflows. Runoff & Testing
Coordination – Support runoffs (ITO, VTO, TTO), capability studies,
and process validation as needed. Requirements Qualifications:
Required 3 years of experience in technical drafting and solid
modeling Proficient in SolidWorks and CATIA; familiarity with
AutoCAD, Draftsight, and/or ProE Strong understanding of geometric
dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) Familiarity with
high-volume precision machining and mechanical assembly practices
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across
engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams Strong organization
and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects under
deadline Comfortable working in both CAD and physical shop
environments Preferred BS or AAS in Mechanical Design,
Manufacturing Engineering, or Drafting/Design Experience with
drawing control systems and international engineering communication
Knowledge of automotive safety component manufacturing methods and
quality systems Basic understanding of safety, environmental, and
quality management systems Hands-on experience with gauging
