ASSISTANT DIRECTOR The Assistant Director of the Program for Pet Health Equity (PPHE) will assist the Director in ensuring the achievement of all program goals. Primary responsibilities include managing the day to day operations, ensuring compliance with The University of Tennessee (UT) policies and procedures regarding the budget and personnel. The Assistant Director assigns and supervises the work of the Research Coordinator. External sponsors fund the PPHE; consequently, the Assistant Director's duties include grant and contract planning, writing, reporting, coordination, implementation, execution, evaluation, and completion of deliverables. The PPHE s mission is enabled by multi-million-dollar grants from multiple external sponsors. To successfully fulfill the mission, collaboration with individuals and programs in multiple UT colleges as well as organizations outside of UT is paramount. Consequently, the Assistant Director works closely with many UT officials and key external individuals and organizations across the United States. This responsibility helps the Director to build and maintain effective working relationships, ensuring mission success. To ensure program sustainability, the Assistant Director is responsible for facilitating capacity building and providing strategic program direction. Leadership and management skills are required to enable the PPHE to sustain successful outcomes and adapt to changing environments. The Assistant Director helps the Director to effectively manage multiple complex projects that involve remote teams in various geographic locations. Outreach to local, regional, and national partners and stakeholders is also an important responsibility. Duties_And_Responsibilities Manage PPHE day to day operations. * The Assistant Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating PPHE activities, including, but not limited to: * Collaborating with the Director in setting and directing organizational goals and objectives. * Translating strategic goals and objectives into actionable tasks that are directed, coordinated, and otherwise managed to ensure completion. * Helping to set performance management and annual operating planning to ensure fulfillment of goals. * Implementing operational strategies to build and maintain an inclusive culture that empowers all team members to thrive and achieve organizational goals. * Overseeing PPHE operations and employee productivity, while striving to build an inclusive culture to help ensure team members thrive. * Engaging in fund raising and grant development, submission, and management. * Ensuring all reporting requirements are met on time. * Engaging in outreach to local, regional, and national partners and stakeholders. * Supervising the Research Coordinator to ensure program goals and deadlines are met. * Conducting yearly performance evaluations of the Research Coordinator. * Providing direction and oversight of all PPHE projects, including: * Establishing and maintaining an effective system of document handling. * Coordination of the activities of multiple teams of investigators and consultants. * Working closely with others to ensure proper management of the budget. * Helping to define program and project needs and assisting the Director in acquiring the necessary resources. * Evaluating and assessing project progress. * Suggesting solutions to problems that threaten the success of the PPHE. * Providing the Director with project updates and status reports. Provide_Oversight_Of_All_Research_Projects * Assist in planning the scope and requiremets of all research projects. * Identifying potential sponsors and establishing collaborative relationships. * Communicating with sponsors to help develop successful grant proposals. * Acquiring the resources needed to successfully conduct research projects. * Assisting in implementation of research projects, including coordination with all participants. * Ensuring all project goals, milestones, reporting, and deliverables are achieved on time. * Coordinating periodic research team meetings to monitor project progress and to ensure goals are met. * Implementing and managing changes as necessary to meet project goals and objectives. * Developing solutions to problems and the elimination of barriers to the mission. * Planning and participation in: * Presentations to sponsors, partners, and stakeholders. * Local, regional, and national meetings and conferences. Administrative_Responsibilities * Work with the PPHE Director, Center for Behavioral Health Research Coordinator, and others to ensure all paperwork requirements are met. * Provide budget oversight to ensure fiduciary obligations are met. * Compile activities and progress reports for grantors and program reviews as required. * Ensure all HR requirements for the Research Coordinator are met. * Ensure travel and other business documents are submitted in a timely manner. * Ensure PPHE staff are up to date on all training requirements. * Manage PPHE communications. Experience Eight years of experience with project management and evaluation. Five years of experience in fundraising, budget management, supervising groups, and animal welfare experience. WORK SCHEDULE:This position may occasionally have weekend work hours and overnight travel.
