Associate Director - New Student Orientation US-Tennessee-Knoxville Associate Director of New Student Orientation Regular Full-time, Pay Grade 43 The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director of New Student Orientation. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position. The Position: The Associate Director assists the Director with oversight of the department and is responsible for leading the Office of New Student Orientation efforts in planning the student and family/guest orientation program for more than 9,000 new first year, transfer students, and guests annually, and the Welcome Week events for first yea r and transfer students. Position Responsibilities: Management: Assist the Director with oversight and management of the department; Serve in place of the Director when the Director is unavailable; Lead planning efforts for the Orientation and Welcome Week programs, overseeing the development and implementation of schedules/logistics and assuring the communication of information to the campus community; Oversee special student populations needs, working with each department that coordinates the special populations to understand the unique registration, schedule, and material needs; Oversee the Coordinator s development of the leadership curriculum and assignments for the orientation spring leadership class. Supervision: Provide direct supervision for the Coordinator; Oversee the training of Orientation Leaders, and other supervisory duties as assigned. Financial Budget: Assist the Director in the oversight of expense, revenue, unrestricted, and restricted accounts in excess of $1.5 million assuring full compliance with University fiscal policies and procedures. Office Responsibilities: Maintain an online database management system, that incorporates college capacities to ensure effective and efficient use of technology; Securely maintain content to provide timely and accurate information throughout the year, and convey appropriate information to students, families, and campus partners; Contribute to office action and assessment plans and assist the office in the execution and review of such plans; Review program evaluations to help in execution of such revisions; Contribute to internal and external office communications plans as assigned. Required Qualifications: Education: This position requires a Master's degree, preferably in higher education, college student personnel or related field Experience: 3 years of professional experience in working with students and parents in the higher education setting, communications, events, student leadership training, and retention programs. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills; Commitment to the educational development of students; Experience of working effectively with diverse populations; Experience with relevant technologies; Ability to relate effectively with students, parents, and other University partners. Preferred Qualifications: Experience: Previous professional experience in orientation, transition and retention; experience in student leadership development and commitment to the educational development of students; administrative experience at the Assistant/Associate Director level; demonstrated experience with supervising full-time professional staff; demonstration of effective collaboration and knowledge of CAS standards. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of best practices in first year and transfer experiences and parent programs; Leadership in providing culturally relevant programs and services; Superior leadership and management skills, including interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills; Excellent presentation and training skills. Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a standard university benefits package.
