Job Description
SUMMARY
The Branch Manager, Minerals is responsible for managing
production, distribution and marketing operations for a US Minerals
Branch location, consisting of Field, Laboratory, and Preparation
operations. Has full employee and PNL responsibility for the
Branch. Organizes and motivates Field, Preparation and/or
laboratory staff in the performance of their responsibilities and
functions. Accountable for, and ensures that the location meets
operational targets, and customer expectations in a timely and
effective manner while observing corporate quality, environmental,
Health & Safety requirements.
JOB FUNCTIONS

--- The Branch Manager, Minerals has full employee and PNL
responsibility, managing production, distribution and marketing
operations in the US Minerals Branch location. Branch consists of
Field, Laboratory, and Preparation operations.
--- Manages work of Preparation and Field Technicians. Has full
supervisory responsibility of both direct and indirect reports
(hiring: interviewing, selection; planning work, scheduling,
performance evaluations, performance management and termination for
all employees at the branch.
--- Performs annual performance evaluations of direct and indirect
reports, as applicable.
--- Manages coordination of production, distribution, warehousing,
and sales in accordance with policies, principles and procedures
established by Area Manager.
--- Serves as the primary point of contact for the Branch with
industry customers and representatives of associated industries to
evaluate and promote improved and expanded services in the
location.
--- Develops and implements plans for efficient use of materials,
instruments, and employees.
--- Oversees and monitors production costs and product quality and
modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and
enhance profitable operations of SGS's branch.
--- Reviews operations of competing organizations, plans and
directs sales program to develop new markets.
--- Reviews accounting records and manages Profit & Loss.
Recommends budget changes to the management team.
--- Reviews data as it applies to operations and quality control
daily and updates all quality control logs and charts as
required.
--- Develops an electronic and physical storage system where all
laboratory worksheets, notebooks, tablets, and other paperwork or
files can be stored to comply with company Records Retention
schedule.
--- Responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations for
designated locations as it applies to all employees, contractors
and visitors.
--- Schedules and conducts monthly operations meetings to review
and update procedures, to discuss existing or potential problems
and their resolution, to reinforce safety rules, and clarify
details of the work schedules.
--- Ensures that all calibrations, standardizations, and equipment
maintenance are performed at the specified times, that they are in
accordance with SGS procedures and specifications, and the results
of these tests are recorded in logs as required.
--- Instructs all new employees on the confidentiality aspects of
analytical reports and information
--- Serves as a backup for the Operations Manager, and/or Area
Manager as required at time of their absence.
--- Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
--- Performs other duties as assigned.
Branch Manager in the Trades Minerals:
Branch Managers in Trades Minerals performs additional activities
as applicable to business in this business line of the Minerals
business unit:
--- To supervise marine surveys, conducted in the Trades Minerals,
utilizes knowledge of ship construction, stability, terms and
routines, as well as SGS's standard inspection and quality
management procedures.
--- Uses sophisticated draft surveying techniques (draft immersion)
to calculate quantities of cargo loaded or discharged from vessels,
taking into account any changes in weight that may take place
during cargo operation.
--- Oversees cargo sampling and analysis and inspect cargo holds.
Utilizes sampling and analysis methods and techniques to perform
product/cargo inspections and ensure adherence with safety and
environmental standards.
--- Uses SGS standard methods and reporting procedures to produce
draft survey reports (including certificates of weight,
certificates of analysis, and certificates of hold cleanliness and
tightness).
--- Provides expert opinions and guidance to clients on stowage and
carriage of specialized cargoes, condition and suitability of
vessels, including hull and machinery, cargo damage, cargo holding
cleanliness and overall risk assessment to minimize the client's
financial risks and liability.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
--- Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or Related field
--- 5+ years of related work experience
--- 3+ years supervisory experience
OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:
--- Education and experience outlined above AND
--- 5+ years supervisory experience
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
--- Have or be able to obtain MSHA 24-hour Miner Certification if
required
--- A valid and current Driver's license may be required if the
role requires driving a company vehicle.
--- May be required to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker
Identification Card)
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
--- Language Skills: English - Advanced level of proficiency
required
--- Mathematical Skills: Basic level of skills required, Advanced
preferred
--- Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Advanced level required
--- Computer Skills: MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint - Intermediate
level user proficiency required

Location of the Job: St. Rose, LA
Work Schedule:
--- Routinely business hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm,
however some locations have 24/7 operations and require a
willingness to work a flexible schedule
--- Longer hours, evenings and/or weekend work will be necessary
frequently as job duties demand.
TRAVEL
--- Local day travel may be required up to 5% of time.
--- May be required to travel overnight occasionally as the job
dictates. Most travel is via automobile, but some may be by
airplane.
EQUIPMENT
--- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as
computers, printers, and phones.
--- Knowledge of equipment used by front line employees is
required, such as sample prep equipment (may include Jaw Crusher,
Bowl & Disc Pulverizing Mills, Pressure Filters, Riffle Splitters,
Compressed Air, Hammer Mill Crushers, Ovens, Balances, and basic
sampling tools) and laboratory equipment/instruments (may include
Bottle-top Dispensers, Eppendorf Pipettes, Balances, Muffle
Furnace, Sulfur Analyzer, Compressed gases, and ICP-OES as
needed).
