Job Description:

System One is seeking an experienced senior-level engineering manager to take the next step within their career as a Director with our new Client, an organization that is mission-driven to provide sustainable, affordable fusion power to the world! In this role, you will lead the design, analysis, specification, and procurement of primary stellarator support systems for two groundbreaking projects in fusion energy. The first project, the Risk Retirement Platform (RRP), aims to demonstrate the performance of a highly optimized stellarator magnetic field configuration and the viability of high-temperature superconducting stellarator magnets. Subsequently, the Fusion Pilot Plant (FPP) will showcase net electrical power production with a closed fuel cycle. Key Responsibilities: - Direct and manage a multidisciplinary team for the conceptual, preliminary, and final design of primary stellarator support systems for the RRP and FPP. - Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop work breakdown structures, integrated master plans, and schedules. - Ensure technical quality, performance, budget adherence, and risk management for primary stellarator support system engineering. - Make optimal design choices considering technical, cost, and schedule constraints. - Oversee subsystem and lower technical reviews, providing design oversight for all primary stellarator support systems and components. - Manage Configuration Management for support system design and procurement products. - Act as the interface to subcontracts management, supporting the transition of the system to the Manufacturing Operations group. - Provide engineering support for procurement and coordinate between Engineering Functional Management and staff. - Manage the engineering environment to meet program objectives, including labs, tools, and resources. Qualifications and Experience: - Master's or Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, or a related field. - Proven experience in directing engineering design teams for highly technical, complex hardware. - Demonstrated success in planning design work and meeting schedules within budget constraints. - Knowledge of stellarator support systems, with a focus on fueling, tritium fuel cycle, vacuum systems, and electron cyclotron heating systems. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. - Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. - If you meet the above minimum qualifications, have a passion for cutting-edge technology and want to be part of a groundbreaking fusion energy initiative, apply today for this amazing opportunity to help shape the future of sustainable energy production!
