seeking a full-time Construction Services Laboratory Manager based
in our Louisville (Knoxville), Tennessee office.Currently, the
Knoxville laboratory has seven staff members and generates
approximately one million dollars annually in revenue.--As a
Laboratory Manager, this individual manages the daily operation and
staff in geotechnical and construction materials testing
laboratories (concrete, aggregate, soil, rock, masonry and asphalt)
and is responsible for the coordination and completion of
proposals, projects, reporting, and invoicing for laboratory
testing projects.--The successful candidate must have leadership
skills and the ability to work in developing a collaborative team
environment; excellent verbal and written communication skills;
demonstrated positive relationships with clients, contractors, and
coworkers; and a strong work ethic.As a member of our leadership
group, this individual is responsible for staff supervision;
training, mentoring, and coaching of employees; Business Unit and
Area objectives in safety, accounting, human resources, and risk
management; and staffing projects with appropriately trained and
certified personnel maximizing staff utilization and project
profitability.--Additional responsibilities include management of
an AASHTO Quality System; maintaining AASHTO, CCRL and U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers accreditation; active participation in our
internal QA/QC program and state radiological license for testing
radioactively contaminated materials. Typical assignments and
responsibilities for this position can include (but are not limited
to): * Performance or coordination of geotechnical laboratory
testing including classification, compaction, shear, consolidation,
swell, hydraulic conductivity, and compressive strength of rock
cores;* Performance or coordination of construction materials
testing on materials such as flowable fill, aggregate, reinforcing
bars, masonry, and asphalt;* Coordination and scheduling of
laboratory testing assignments;* Performing, and/or coordinating
others in, timely calibrations and maintenance of field and
laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards;* Maintaining
documentation of equipment maintenance and calibrations for
compliance with AASHTO Accreditation Program requirements,
including internal and external audits;* Frequent use of Metafield,
and/or other field and laboratory information management systems,
for recording and reporting testing results;* Communication of
field and laboratory observations and testing results with Project
Management staff, general contractors, and clients;* Assisting
Project Management staff with review of laboratory testing results
and preparation of formal reports;* Preparation of cost estimates,
proposals and laboratory testing agreements in accordance with
project specifications and client-provided requests for proposals;*
Business planning related to staffing, salaries, and capital
expenditures;* Management of testing materials under our Radiation
Protection Program for low-level radioactively contaminated
materials.Qualifications:* High school diploma/GED required;*
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Natural Sciences,
Construction related field, or other appropriate technical field
highly preferred (in lieu of a degree, work experience and
applicable certifications from nationally recognized certification
agencies such as NICET, WACEL, ACI, DOTs, etc. will be
considered);* Minimum 8 years' combined experience in laboratory
geotechnical and construction materials testing; at least 2--years'
experience in a supervisory, management or leadership role,
required;* Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO test methods specific
to geotechnical and construction materials required;* Familiarity
with AASHTO R18 Quality Management System (or comparable quality
management system) required;* Experience with Microsoft Office
(Word and Excel) required;* Familiarity with processing and
reporting geotechnical and construction materials test results
using specialized computer software preferred;* Familiarity with
Lab Information Management System software preferred;* Familiarity
with geotechnical and material testing equipment and calibration
procedures required;* Familiarity with automated testing, data
acquisition and instrumentation preferred;* Demonstrated positive
leadership with a good understanding of business metrics, safety
policies/procedures, human resources policies/procedures, risk
management concepts and other applicable policies and procedures;*
Good written and oral communication skills required;* Ability to
occasionally work outdoors in varying weather conditions;* Although
the position will be based in the Knoxville, Tennessee location,
some out-of-town and overnight travel could be required;* Ability
to routinely lift 40 to 50 lbs. required.This is a full-time
position with competitive pay based on experience. Successful
candidate must meet requirements of the company's Fleet Management
Program, Substance Policy and Reference check program. Submit
