Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is hiring a Construction Materials Technician to join our team in Knoxville, TN. Wood provides construction materials testing and quality control services to a variety of clients from civil contractors to state and federal agencies. Our work spans many sectors including oil & gas, mining, hydro power development, highway infrastructure, municipal infrastructure, and commercial and industrial developments.
This position is fulltime, permanent and offers exciting and valuable opportunities for the motivated candidate to become trained in key aspects of our other related lines of business including environmental sciences, site assessment, remediation, earth sciences and geotechnical engineering.
Key Responsibilities


  • Perform field and laboratory testing and inspections for concrete, soils, aggregates, and asphalt in accordance with relevant standards
  • Sampling/testing of concrete, collection of field samples and conduction of soil and asphalt compaction testing
  • Preparation of daily field reports, field compaction reports, laboratory testing reports, and other office assignments
  • Ensuring field and laboratory equipment is maintained, repaired, and calibrated as required
  • Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications
  • Interact with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites
  • Maintain equipment, inventory and records required for an AASHTO certified laboratory
  • Adhering to all company safety rules and policies

    Skills / Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Requires ACI Concrete Filed Testing Technician- Grade I
    • 1-5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials required
    • Requires travel and willingness to work outdoors
    • Requires ability to lift 50 lbs. routinely
    • Ability to apply analytical or scientific thinking to define and solve problems and be able to execute field and office tasks
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
    • Strong mathematical skills
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Understanding of basic engineering principles
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability
    • Valid driver's license is required
    • Due to field work responsibilities, a fit for duty physical is required
    • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
    • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record
