As a Senior Nuclear Safety Analyst you will serve as a nuclear safety analyst, performing safety analysis work for DOE Hazard Category 2 and 3 nuclear facilities across the DOE complex. May also provide guidance associated with technical and engineering analysis and quality assurance to support regulatory compliance for BGS programs and clients.

  • Responsible for developing, reviewing, and implementing various technical and regulatory documents such as safety basis calculations, Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs), Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs) and Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) determinations for nuclear and nuclear explosive facilities.
  • Perform complex and in-depth technical analysis (e.g., HazOps, PrHAs, Hazard Identification and Screening, Hazard Evaluations, radiological and toxicological consequence calculations, nuclear physics calculations, and health physics calculations) with the use of analytical software (e.g., Excel, ALOHA, EPIcode, HOTSPOT, MACCS2, MicroShield) to develop data, validate calculations, and evaluate risk and consequences.
  • In addition, candidate will analyze and identify complex data collected from engineering facilities for risk, safety, environmental, or reliability concerns and recommend corrective action when required. Lead, conduct, and evaluate detailed reviews of complex operations to identify hazards and develop appropriate controls.
  • Review, from a broad technical perspective, the structures, systems, components, processes, materials, potential energy sources used in facilities, and identify hazards, postulate credible accidents, consider regulatory compliance, and provide solutions (e.g., develop appropriate engineering and/or administrative controls). Qualifications

    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree is required. Focus within physical science or engineering is preferred.
    • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience is required.
    • Experience in performing nuclear safety analysis in a DOE or commercial environment is required. Facility and process hazard analysis, safety analysis and reporting, licensing, and risk assessment experience is necessary.
    • Experience supporting dose assessments, environmental monitoring, radionuclide transport modeling, and radiation work planning is preferred.
    • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing plus basic presentation skills is required. Proficiency is required in Microsoft software, at a minimum Word, Excel, and Power Point.
    • Candidate must either possess or be eligible to obtain a US Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
    • US citizen.
    • Successful drug screening.
